British Nationals

Whilst most people were out playing in the snow Megan Allison and Scarlet Major from the City of Newport Swimming Club spent 10 hours driving to Edinburgh to compete in the British Swimming Championships. This is the highest level meet in the country this year which saw many international swimmers competing from across Europe.
Both swimmers qualified in multiple events which is a massive achievement as the qualifying times are extremely difficult, and both were swimming out of age. Megan Allison qualified for and subsequently swam the 100 Butterfly, and 200 Freestyle on day 1, the 50 Freestyle on day 2, and the 200 Butterfly and 100 Freestyle on day 4. Scarlet Major swam the 200 Individual Medley, 100 Breaststroke and 50 Freestyle on day 2, and the 100 Freestyle and 50 50 Breaststroke on day 4.
The snow made travel very difficult with a number of swimmers and coaches being unable to attend the meet and caused a lot of disruptions to those who did manage to attend, but all credit to the swimmers and their families for managing to get there.
The level of swimming was amazing, and it was great to see how the Newport Swimmers stepped up to the mark to compete at this level. Megan Allison qualified for the 17 & Under final, finishing 5th as a 17 & Under, and 2nd for her age.
Well done to both Megan and Scarlet and we look forward to more from you in the future.
