Newport 2000’s took on Swansea last night in what proved to be a wonderful display of Water polo at its finest.
Swansea came out strong and scored the first goal, however, this was followed up by a quick goal from Daniel followed by another goal from Luke. Goals followed in quick succession by Charlie, Joseph, Daniel and Ollie. Swansea scored one more goal but were outmatched by the sheer tenacity of the Newport boys with the first quarter being taken by Newport 8 goals to 2.
The second quarter saw Newport fly out of the start-up with successive goals from Charlie, Jack T, Daniel, Toby S and Ollie outstripping Swansea by a 10 to 1 margin.
The third quarter saw no respite in the sheer force of Newport’s dominance with goals from Daniel, Ben, Jack K, Ollie, Toby S, Toby C and Ewan. In part to the excellent goal keeping talents of Louie, Swansea were unable to put one goal into the Newport net and saw Newport take this quarter by a stomping 11 – 0 win.
By the fourth quarter, Newport were unstoppable, however, this did not see the boys rest up and take things easy. Ben scored the first goal of the quarter, followed by further goals from Jack T, Joseph, Ben, Charlie Toby S and Daniel. Swansea were only able to put one goal away in this quarter to Newport’s 11.
The teamwork on display was magnificent to watch with no one player standing out from the others with every player making a difference. Well done boys you are a credit to the club.
A great game for our Juniors. This game saw the older players establish a strong lead very early on in the match, then make way for the younger players to gain some very valuable game time and experience. Great to see that the younger players maintained the lead they had been given.
Newport went away with a depleted team due to injuries and holidays, which saw only 9 players able to take to the water, half of which were under 14.
Still, the guys put on a great performance and all tired their best, against one of the strongest teams on the league.
thank you to all who played, for being prepared to enter the water, and thank you to your support teams, parents, for taking the time to travel and support the team.
A tense match throughout. Cheltenham had drafted in some support after the last match. At the end of the 1st Chukka Cheltenham led by 4 - 1. Newport clawed their way back into the game to lead by 8 - 7 at the end of the 3rd chukka. however, a very close last chukka saw Cheltenham finish ahead 11 - 9. good game and great effort shown by all.
