The club is always looking at for new officials and volunteers to help at the club. If you are interested in helping out regardless how often, please email volunteers.newportswimming@gmail.com
Officials
Officials are the volunteers wearing white T-shirts at meets. They ensure that the meet is run within accordance of World Aquatics and Aquatics GB licensing rules.
There are a number of different levels of officiating and the club will support you to attain the necessary qualification. Each level requires a training course, practical poolside experience and mentoring. Continued Professional development is required every four years. These roles also require an enhanced DBS.
J1 - This level encompasses the role of Timekeeper, Chief Timekeeper, Inspector or turns and Chief Inspector of Turns
J2 - This level encompasses the role of Stroke Judge, Finish Judge and Starter
Referee - This is the highest level of qualification and this role has overall control of all aspects of the meet.
Team Managers
Team Managers are an essential part to the club when at meets both at home and away. They support the club by liaising with the coaches, parents and team staff, looking after the athletes and also travel itineraries. Training requirements for this role include attendance at a Team Manager training course and a safeguarding course which is renewed every three years. This role also requires an enhanced DBS. The club will support you in meeting the requirements for this role.
Chaperones
Chaperones provide direct, extra supervision to swimmers on a 1-1 basis. A safeguarding course and enhanced DBS are required for these roles.
Home Meet volunteers
At home meets, the club relies of additional volunteers to ensure that the meet can run as smoothly as possible. Within Newport, we run three home meets each season (Autumn Open, Christmas Cracker and Spring Open). If you are interesting in helping at one of these meets (even just for one session) please get in touch:
