Waterpolo Update Wednesday 2nd May 2018

We had a very busy weekend of waterpolo, here is a roundup of the matches.

Thursday evening Seniors 1st travelled to Frome and had a convincing win 17 8!

Friday evening Senior 2nds travelled to Bath University and lost 11 5, a score which  doesn’t reflect the quality of play from our Newport team.

Saturday afternoon our youngest team the 2002s travelled to Bristol. The team suffered defeat to Bristol 36 6. It should be noted that our team of just 7 players showed outstanding perseverance, resilience and commitment. A special mention to Abbie who was playing her first ever match and stayed in the outfield for the whole game. Well done to Harry for taking on goal in the 4th quarter and facing penalties and saving goals. The whole squad – Ben T, Louie, Nyxon, Toby, Ben W, Harry and Abbie deserve a mention for their fantastic team work.

Unfortunately Saturday afternoon Cwm Draig cancelled the 2000 Junior match that was due to be played away at home. We are working with the Welsh league to try to ensure that fixtures go ahead and players get opportunities to play.

Sunday afternoon the 2002s played Exeter at home and lost 24 8, the team from Saturday were joined by Jack, Devin and Dean. Well done to all of the players, as spectators we can see you developing and going from strength to strength.

The weekend was rounded off by the senior 1sts playing Exeter the game started well with Newport leading 10 5 at half time, the second half saw Exeter fight back to take the game form Newport 15 14.

This week we have just one match, our Senior 1st take on Cwm Draig in the KO cup at Sobell Leisure Centre Thursday evening. Cwm Draig have started to promote the match via their twitter feed, please keep tweeting and retweeting our club posts and posts by players and parents.
